Aesthetic Breast Procedures

There are a variety of aesthetic breast procedures to change the size, reshape or improve symmetry. The success of breast surgery-whether it is done to reduce, enlarge or lift is influenced by your age and by your size, shape and skin tone of the area.

Breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty) enlarges small or underdeveloped breasts. Implants can enhance and restore breast volume. You have the option of using 2 different types of breast implants – silicone or saline. Dr. Duda will explain each type of breast implant and help you decide which is best for you.

Breast lift (mastopexy) elevates and recontours loose sagging breasts that usually occur after having children or loss of significant amount of weight. It elevates breast tissue, removes excess skin, relocates the nipple and areola to a higher position, and reduces size of the areola. Sometimes an implant is recommended to enhance the breast shape. After surgery your breasts will be positioned higher and feel firmer.

Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammoplasty) can relieve painful physical symptoms caused by large breasts. It can enhance your overall appearance by making your breasts more proportional and restore balance to the rest of your body.

Breast reduction in men (gynecomastia surgery) is removal of excess breast tissue and sometimes excess skin. This can involve only one breast or both breasts. The cause is often unknown, and can develop in adolescent males, or in adult men after weight loss or secondary to some medications. This surgery restores male chest contour.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast asymmetry can be corrected. Naturally, there is some degree of breast asymmetry. Sometimes after the breasts develop, there may be a significant difference in size and or shape. Correction may involve surgery on one or both breasts, and may involve placement of a breast implant, breast lift or breast reduction.

Breast reconstruction after mastectomy is one area that Dr. Duda has a special interest and expertise. Dr. Duda has performed 100’s of breast reconstruction procedures. Breast cancer affects 1:8 women; and the diagnosis of breast cancer changes your life and your body. You have to make many decisions, and this requires bravery, courage and endurance.

Loss of a breast after a diagnosis of breast cancer can be devastating, and reconstruction not only restores the breast, but also the feelings of loss of femininity, self-consciousness and self esteem. Breast reconstruction can be performed immediately after your mastectomy, or later, if this is another decision that you are not ready to make when you are faced with so many other decisions involving your health. The goal of breast reconstruction is to provide symmetry, to rebuild a breast that is similar in shape and size with your natural breast. Sometimes the opposite breast will be enhanced, either with a reduction, breast lift or enlargement to achieve optimal symmetry.

There are 2 main methods for breast reconstruction, and it may involve using your own tissues (autologous tissue) or using breast implants. A consultation is important to determine who is a candidate for either procedure.
